Though the Salt Lake City media is more focused on rampant Orem childhood obesity, there are some underweight children in Utah.
When Salt Lake City kids refuse to eat, it is a challenge for Salt Lake City parents to make sure they get proper nutrition.
Understandably, Orem kids that usually eat normally often lose their appetite when they are sick. Kids who don’t eat much during a two-day bout with the flu will probably have no health issues from the temporary reduction in nutrition.
Orem children who undergo chemo treatment at Salt Lake City hospitals, however, are at greater risk for malnutrition. Ironically, this is the time when adequate calories, vitamins, and minerals are needed the most for ill Orem children.
Here are some suggestions for helping Salt Lake City kids with poor appetites receive adequate nutrition:
Don’t let your Orem child fill up on beverages before meals, serve liquids between meals
Offer small meals throughout the day
Always have healthy snacks available like protein bars, fruit, and cheese
Alter food temperature to see if it makes the food more appealing to your Salt Lake City child
Try smoothies and soups if your sick Orem child has a hard time swallowing
If your child is turned off by intense smells or flavors, try bland foods with little seasoning
I want every Orem child to receive excellent nutrition and the best healthcare available in Utah. I am excited about a new Salt Lake City children’s nutrition product and would love to tell you about it. Call me today for more information.
